Years 4 and 5's trip to see the Welsh Guards at St Catherine's School

This morning Years 4 and 5 were lucky enough to see the Welsh Guards perform at St Catherine’s School.  They were treated to a colourful display of costumes and magnificent marching music with instruments including trombones, trumpets, drums, clarinets and a piccolo.  It concluded with a very familiar arrangement of You’ve got a Friend in Me from Toy Story which the children really enjoyed.  There was the opportunity to ask lots of questions at the end and everyone was very inquisitive about the instruments, how to read music and march at the same time, medals, red tunics and bearskin hats.  Thanks so much to St Catherine's for having us.

Eco Schools Green Flag with Distinction

We're so proud to have received our Eco School Green Flag with Distinction this year.  It proves our continued commitment to environmental learning in all areas of the curriculum.

This is the highest level of award and is only given to those schools which the Eco-Schools judges believe have gone 'above and beyond' the requirements for a Green Flag.

World Mental Health Day

On World Mental Health Day we're reminding ourselves of all the tools we learn at St Ives to keep our wellbeing in tact.  We're especially drawing on our recent 3-day Natural Wellbeing Festival when we were introduced to many new concepts such as forest bathing and sensory grounding, both of which we loved practising and can see how they will give us a sense of calm when life feels busy and overwhelming. We also understand the value of connecting with others, being part of a community and giving back, which we also enjoyed with our visit to the residents of Redcote Care Home and our litter picking with Love Haslemere Hate Waste.

Reception Topic

Our Reception pupils are loving their topic on 'People Who Help Us' & have enjoyed special visits from a builder, a vet & even their very own headteacher, Mrs Goldsworthy! The children have loved learning what these jobs involve & how important they are in helping communities thrive. Thank you so much to our visitors - we've loved welcoming you!

Year 2 Sport

In Sport this week, Year 2s tested out their Rugby skills and showed lots of potential.  They improved their ball carrying and passing skills, remembering not to pass the ball forwards!  We finished with a game of tag style rugby, looking for spaces to run through and changing direction with the ball.  Well done Year 2!

Wellbeing Festival

"By discovering nature, you discover yourself".  This morning we discovered nature in so many ways. We learnt how to forest bathe, the ancient Japanese process of relaxation & enjoyed a session of sensory grounding where we removed our socks and enjoyed the sensation of different parts of the forest with our feet.  We also made a nature rainbow using natural materials and Autumn wreaths.  We even enjoyed drama & stories in the forest.  Day 2 of our Wellbeing Festival has definitely connected us to nature and helped us understand how nature can help us remain calm and relaxed in times of worry.
