Kay Goldsworthy - Head Teacher

Kay studied Primary Education BA at Roehampton University. She then worked in Surrey for 4 years teaching across Key Stages 1 & 2. She has experience co-ordinating Geography, French and Educational Visits. Kay travelled to Abu Dhabi UAE, to teach in an International School. She was part of the team that opened a brand new school called Al Muna. Kay worked there for 2 years and taught across Key Stage 2, and was part of the Literacy Curriculum Team. This is Kay’s nineth year at St Ives School.

Nicola Smith - Deputy Head and Humanities Teacher

Nicola graduated from the University of Wales with both a first class honours BA in Geography and also obtained the award for the highest achieving final year student. She studied French to first year degree level, gaining the department’s scholarship. After university she went on to fulfil her lifelong ambition to teach by undertaking a Primary PGCE at the University of Plymouth.

Lesley Whittle - Nursery Manager

Lesley has worked at St Ives for eight years. Having achieved a degree in Early Childhood Studies from London South Bank University in July 2006, Lesley went on to study Child Development and Education at Kingston University where she was awarded Early Years Professional Status in March 2008. Lesley has had a twenty-year career in childcare, in both day-care and sessional settings as well as bringing up two children of her own. During this career Lesley has had a special interest in special educational needs and speech and language development. In order to develop her knowledge in this area she has attended an Elklan course in Speech and Language Support for under-fives, a Makaton workshop and a workshop in Portage support. Whilst working in Early Years settings Lesley has worked closely with the advisors from Surrey Early Years and Childcare and has been involved in producing training videos demonstrating outstanding practice - this being the standard of practice she presents at all times in the Ivies. Lesley also manages the After School Care and is a great advocate for children having the freedom to explore their world through free play during which they learn to share, work together, support each other and overcome problems.

Deb Bowler - Early Years Practitioner

Deb has worked at St Ives for six years. She has a Level 3 Cache in Childcare, and has additionally attended multiple training courses on many aspects of the nursery environment. Before joining St Ives Deb worked at her village nursery for ten years. She lives in Chiddingfold with her two children.

Rachel Sacre - Early Years Practitioner

Rachel joined St Ives in January 2019 having previously worked at Lanesborough Prep School in Guildford. Rachel has over twenty years’ experience of working in childcare including day care and school settings. During her time at Lanesborough Rachel worked in the nursery as a nursery assistant as well as a teaching assistant in both Reception class and Year 2. Rachel has an NVQ Level 3 in childcare and has kept her knowledge and skills upto date by attending regular training courses.

Rachel Greatbatch - Head of English and Reception Class Teacher

Rachel attended the University of St Andrews where she studied English Literature, Modern History, Classics and Latin before finally choosing to read English Literature. This degree choice was a continuation of a lifelong love of learning, and in particular reading, which Rachel is passionate about passing on to all children she teaches. After a brief career in banking, Rachel pursued her dream and began a PGCE at the University of Leeds, specialising in the 5-7 age range.

Lucy Tapp - Reception Class Teacher, ICT and Sport Teacher

Lucy graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc in Criminology, during which time she also gained experienced working in a Montessori nursery setting. This inspired a love of working with children and lead Lucy to Winchester University where she completed her PGCE. Her first teaching role was at St Hilary’s School, Godalming, where she taught Reception and developed a love of the EYFS. She also gained experience working with a wealth of different special needs and believes that every child is unique and deserves every opportunity to achieve their own personal best. Most recently, Lucy worked at The Pilgrims’ School in Winchester where she taught a Year One class of nineteen boys.

Pippa Ayton - Reception Teaching Assistant

Pippa has worked at St Ives for six years. The majority of this time has been spent working in the Early Years during which she undertook training in developing practice within the early years, safeguarding and first aid. Pippa has gained previous experience working with children at Grayswood Infant School and Haslemere Prep School where she worked in both reception and nursery classes. Pippa has been involved with after school activities, notably Beavers and cricket. This year Pippa will be working as a teaching assistant in Reception as well as continuing her work in the Nursery.

Lily Jackson - Head of Art and Year 1 Class Teacher

This is Lily's second year at St Ives. A recent Fine Art graduate from UCA Farnham, Lily has spent her time developing her passion for the arts and her love for teaching. Lily has worked locally in schools in both the maintained and independent sector. Lily's biggest inspiration has always been her father whose career in teaching the arts has spanned over 40 years in Bath where she grew up. Art has been something that she uses as a form of expression and believes it is one of the greatest tools of communication we have.

Jenny Duggin - Year 2 teacher, Pre-prep coordinator, and Senior PSHE teacher

Jenny has worked at St Ives for twelve years. She has taught mainly in Year 2 but has also taught PSHE, RE and Computing across the school. This year she will be teaching Year 2, as well as teaching RE from Year 2-6, and PSHE to Years 2- 6. As Pre-prep Coordinator she is a member of the school management team. She is also PSHE and RE Coordinator, overseeing the subjects across the entire school. Prior to working at St Ives she was a straight ‘A’ student at school, before studying Psychology at Durham University where she graduated with first class honours. She then spent six years working in the television industry, developing and making children’s and mainstream TV programmes for a variety of companies including the BBC and ITV. Having enjoyed her media career but seeking something more fulfilling and rewarding, she did a PGCE at Roehampton University, specialising in Early Years. Since making the career change she hasn’t looked back, and absolutely loves working here at St Ives. She lives in Haslemere with her husband and two children, who both previously attended The Ivies Nursery.

Cheryl Cooper - Pre-Prep Assistant

Cheryl is a returning member of staff to St Ives this year, after 8 years away. In that time, she worked at Beacon Hill Primary School as a teaching assistant and a 1:1, specialising in Autism. Cheryl has been a teaching assistant for 15 years.  Cheryl enjoys reading, cricket and listening to music. She lives in Haslemere with her husband and two boys.

Jane Lipscomb - English Teacher, SENCO and Acting Seniors Co-Ordinator

Jane has a long association with St Ives and was previously the Year One class teacher and, more recently, taught English in Years Three to Five. Having completed a degree in Estate Management, Jane spent ten years working as a Chartered Surveyor in London. Looking for a new challenge, she re-trained and qualified as a Montessori teacher before completing a postgraduate diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties and a PGCE in Primary Education. She has taught at a local Montessori nursery, the American International School in Vienna and in a local state school focussing on one to one learning support. Jane is delighted to be returning to St. Ives, which holds many happy memories for her as a teacher and a parent, as both her daughters attended the school.

Verity Vinen - Art Teacher

Verity came to St Ives as Head of Art following 18 years at St Catherine's, Bramley. She has a strong pastoral background and was a School Housemistress prior to having her children. Verity is a practising artist and enjoys painting and printmaking, and takes her inspiration from the Highlands of Scotland. She started her teaching career in London and taught in Plymouth followed by 2 years as Head of Art in an international school in Nairobi, Kenya.

Marieke Butterfield - Science Teacher

Marieke has a passion for Science which started at a very young age and continued throughout her school career where she excelled across the Science disciplines, gaining awards in both Chemistry and Environmental Science at A Level. She went on to gain a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of Bangor. Following graduation she went on to work in Mozambique as the resident Marine Biologist at an eco-lodge. On her return to England she pursued her love of teaching, gaining her teaching qualification through the graduate teaching program. Since qualifying Marieke has taught Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in Surrey and Hampshire schools. She has experience as Key Stage 2 leader, a mentor for newly qualified teachers and has led outdoor learning and eco teams in her previous posts. Having led Science in all her previous posts she is now enjoying sharing her passion for the subject with the children of St Ives.

Catherine Calunniato - Seniors Co-ordinator and Head of Maths

Since completing a PGCE at Winchester University, Catherine has worked in a number of Hampshire schools with National Support School Status. She has taught all core subjects alongside some outstanding senior leaders in very challenging circumstances. Marked out by her work ethic, Hampshire Moderating Team identified her as an innovator who extolled virtue and championed best practice. As Maths Leader she has played an integral part in reinvigorating interest in the subject and raising standards. A sporting all-rounder, with a Sports Science background, Catherine is a County-level athlete (netball and volleyball) with an avid interest in team sports and team competition.

Courtney Green - Maths Teacher

Courtney graduated in 2018 with a degree in Music from the University of Surrey. After completing her degree she decided to pursue a career in teaching where she could inspire a love of growth and learning. Courtney joins us from Guildford High School and comes to St Ives as a teacher of maths and hopes to bring together the worlds of music and maths to create stimulating and creative lessons inspired by the teaching in her own education. 

Emma Woodward - Head of Sport

Emma joined St Ives in 2018 as Head of Sport, having taught previously in two large Independent Schools in South London.  She graduated from the University of Birmingham with an BA Honours degree in Sport and Recreation, where she stayed on to complete a P.G.C.E in Physical Education.  Emma started her teaching career at St Dunstan’s College, teaching PE to all pupils from Years 3 to 13.  Whilst at the College, she was promoted to Head of Girls’ Games and teacher in charge of Swimming. After nine happy years at the College Emma took the opportunity to lead a PE Department and became Head of PE at James Allen’s Prep School, in Dulwich where she stayed for twelve years.  Emma has taken part in a variety of sports over the years at school, university and beyond.  She has a competitive background in Swimming and has swum at County, Regional and National levels.  Her proudest moments include winning the British Universities Championships and competing at the Olympic trials.  Emma has twin daughters who have are at St Ives in Year 1. 

Katie Croall - Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Katie has a BA (Hons) joint degree in French and Italian from the University of Bristol and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from St Mary’s University, Twickenham. She has also completed Spanish courses at the University of Surrey, Guildford. After completing her PGCE Katie taught at the Convent of Jesus and Mary Language College, where she completed her NQT year. Following this, she spent seven years at Gumley House Convent School FCJ, where she taught French and Italian from year 7 to year 13. During her time at Gumley House, Katie was appointed Head of Italian and Head of House and was extremely proud of the excellent examination results students achieved. Many of her students chose to continue their studies at university and were awarded places at Oxbridge and a number of Russell Group universities to read languages. Katie has two children and her eldest daughter is in Year 3 at St Ives.

Nicola Clutterbuck - Spanish Teacher

 After graduating from the University of Strathclyde with a BA (Hons) degree in Spanish & Latin American Studies, Nicola spent a large part of her career at a leading global insurer where she was the Learning & Development Manager for Latin America.  Following a career break to have her two children, Nicola decided to pursue a career in teaching and teaches Spanish in both maintained and independent schools in the local area.  Nicola loves all things Spanish - the language, the people, the culture, the food - and is very passionate about encouraging others to learn what is now the second most widely-spoken language in the world.  

Debbie McGuinness - Head of Music

Debbie teaches music throughout the school and drama in Key Stage 2. She was awarded her degree in Music at the University of Hull in 1995 and then went on to complete a PGCE at Bretton Hall College, specialising in primary teaching with music. She taught in the North of England and Northern Ireland before settling in Surrey in 2001. Debbie taught at St Ives for 4 years before taking a break to look after her young family. She is delighted to be back and part of the team again.

Hayley Dibb - School Secretary and Admission Officer

Hayley gained her degree in European Business and Languages at Nottingham Trent University, which included a year studying and working abroad in Germany. She then pursued a career in Marketing/Advertising working for large multinationals, such as Sony TV-Europe and Coats Viyella, before working more locally for a private education company catering for overseas students in Guildford. Following a career break to raise her 3 children, during which time, Hayley worked part-time from home and also voluntarily at her children's schools, she joined St Ives in September 2015 to work as Registrar/Admissions Officer.
