Year 3 entry

Applying for a place in Year 3

Every child interested in joining St Ives in Year 3 will be invited to a taster day and participate in lessons with our current Year 2 cohort so we can assess whether St Ives can provide a suitable environment for your child.  We will also request a report from the Head of your child’s current school.  Subject to satisfactory completion of the taster day and availability of a place, places will be offered on an ongoing basis as the taster days take place.

Scholarships and bursaries

We are always looking for children who display real aptitude or potential, whether that be in academic, sporting, drama, art or music ability (or a combination of these) and therefore there are some fee-assisted places available on entry to Year 3.  For more information, please see our Scholarships and Bursaries page.

St Ives somehow achieves that magical blend of being a nurturing, encouraging school, coupled with academic focus and achievement to ensure that all the girls fulfil their potential. Our daughter has been so happy there. The staff show great dedication to the pupils and we have every confidence that our daughter has the best foundation to move on to her senior school.

Year 6 Parent March 2017

From the moment my daughter joined St Ives we saw her blossom, thrive and grow in confidence which she has continued to do throughout her years at the school. There is in a genuine happiness, warmth and sense of fun within the spirit of the school and she could not have had a better prep school experience. Teachers know your child well and prepare them exceptionally well for their next steps at their secondary schools and the level of academic achievement is high

Year 6 Parent March 2017

St Ives really is a fantastic school, where the children are treated as individuals. There is a lovely "family" atmosphere where the girls flourish. I have seen my daughter grow in confidence as she has been nurtured and encouraged by the very dedicated teachers. The academic standards are high, my daughter was offered a place at all three 11+ schools she sat for. Kay Goldsworthy the head teacher is very approachable is passionate about the school. I have been so impressed with her dedication and energy.

Year 6 Parent March 2017

St Ives has been a fantastic choice for all of my three daughters, who each have very different personalities and interests. My girls have had a lot of fun at St Ives and the preparation for senior school exams is excellent.

Year 6 Parent March 2017

My two children have totally thrived at St Ives. It has been the making of them! Mrs Goldsworthy is young and enthusiastic and has a brilliant rapport with the pupils. She completely understood my children and guided them to the right school. Thank you for all you have done for us.

The days I’ve had here are days I will not forget. Leaving in Year 6 is one of the most heart-breaking things I will ever do.

It is a very encouraging and a very happy atmosphere to be in. The teachers always challenge us but always make the lessons fun!

Isabel (age 10)

The teachers are the best because they have helped me to be the best I can be in every lesson.

Bea (age 9)

The lessons are fun, the teachers are kind, I have made lots of friends and I love all the events.

Freya (age 9)

I have been so impressed with the online learning offered at St Ives. It has been wonderful to see all the different assignments created by the teachers and the breath of curriculum delivered remotely. We have been so well supported by the teacher and the weekly challenges have made us feel so connected to the St Ives community whilst we are apart.

St Ives School is a must for anyone looking for independent education in the area. I have had two children at the school over the last 10 years and it has gone from strength to strength. The class sizes are small which means your child gets exactly what they need - whatever their ability. I have watched my girls grow over their time at St Ives into confident, polite, school loving children. Whatever your child's 'thing' is St Ives will find it, nurture it and bring out the absolute best in your child. The school’s approach to learning is to make it fun, inclusive and very hands on. Even after 10 years at the school, they still manage to surprise me with new and exciting ways to teach and foster the desire to learn. The academic results speak for themselves and are a testament to the incredible work the teaching staff do in preparing the girls for their next school, not just academically, but as kind, caring children, confident in their own skin. And if that wasn’t enough, the school is set in beautiful grounds with its own forest where the children undertake many activities. The school is fun, vibrant and provides all the opportunities you’d expect from a much larger school. It’s a wonderful place for children to spend their early school years.

Parent June 2018

St Ives is happy school where children are encouraged to explore their own ideas and to actually enjoy the process of learning. They are kept busy and interested within a kind and nurturing environment - the number of subject-related clubs, trips, workshops and other activities is very impressive. Small class sizes mean that every child receives a tailor-made education and they blossom in ability and confidence as a result. The staff are professional, caring and enthusiastic often going beyond the call to ensure each pupil reaches their potential. Academic results are outstanding but, more importantly, St Ives instills a sense of community, compassion, responsibility and fun. Both our girls had a wonderful time there and treasure many lovely memories.
