The Ivies

Co-ed nursery for 2-4 year olds

Their future starts here!

The Ivies offers children an exceptional start to their education journey.  Situated in our light and airy Pre-Prep building, with its own garden, Nursery children have the benefits of a cosy, home-from-home environment with the advantages of being part of a big school and all the wonderful opportunities that come with it.  At The Ivies, there’s always lots to do, with a fun, action-packed curriculum which includes Forest School, Art, Dance, Drama, Cooking, Numeracy, Literacy, French and Swimming.  We know every child is unique and ensure we give everyone the opportunity to grow and flourish in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our wonderful Nursery team of highly qualified staff is headed up by Mrs Lesley Whittle, our Nursery Manager, who has been at St Ives for over 10 years and is a great advocate for giving children the freedom to explore their world through free play during which they learn to share, work together, support each other and overcome problems.  As well as a degree in Early Childhood Studies and the Early Years Professional Status, Lesley has worked closely with the advisors from Surrey Early Years and Childcare advising and producing training videos demonstrating outstanding practice, a standard she presents at all times in the Ivies.

We offer morning sessions (8.30 am to 12 pm), morning sessions with lunch (8.30 am – 1 pm), afternoon sessions (1pm-3pm), afternoon session with lunch (12pm -3pm) and full day sessions (8.30 am – 3 pm).  We also offer Early Birds drop off from 7.45am as well as After School Care until 5.45pm (there is a small charge for After School Care).  Children staying for lunch receive a hot meal, homemade on-site, in the main school dining room.

Come and see what taking playing seriously looks like

We have 'Stay and Play' every Thursday from 9.30am - 11.00am. Term Time only.

These sessions are for those parents interested in the Ivies for their children.  The sessions allow you and your child to experience a couple of hours with us to see for yourselves what a happy and nurturing place the Ivies is.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, these sessions are currently on hold.  We aim to re-instate them, as soon as it is safe to do so.

Life Beyond Nursery

We see life at The Ivies as just the beginning of your child’s St Ives journey, and the vast majority of children in the Ivies move into the main school for Reception and beyond.  At the beginning of the pre-Reception year, all Nursery parents are invited to a meeting with our Nursery Manager, Headteacher and Pre-Prep Staff to find out about life beyond Nursery. This ensures the parents are ready for life in the main school!  For the children, we introduce Reception Readiness Sessions during the Summer Term in the pre-Reception year, where they will spend one afternoon a week in the Reception class.  This also applies to any external children registered to join us the following September, so that all of the children become familiar with each other and life in Reception.  This makes the transition to ‘big school’ as smooth and seamless as possible.

If you would like to know more about The Ivies, arrange a visit or register your interest, please contact us on 01428 643734 or email registrar@stiveshaslemere.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Early Years Foundation Stage Inspection Report

The Ivies is a very special place. It is a nurturing and caring setting where each child is treated like an individual. My son has been exceptionally happy at The Ivies and that is all down to the wonderful teachers, staff, other children and parents. In addition to the caring environment, the children are helped to develop at their own pace but in a fun and progressive way. My son has excelled there.

The Ivies, Haslemere has been a fantastic environment for my son. They are given independence in a safe environment and lots of play outdoors as well as free and structured play indoors - a really great balance. Great preparation for school with phonics etc. The staff are wonderful - my son loves them like extended family. They are professional and very warm and friendly and I trust them implicitly to do the best for my son.

Our daughter settled into The Ivies immediately. The staff are all brilliant. Ivies provide a nurturing environment, with well thought through learning tools, great activities and space inside and out. We have been extremely happy with it and would highly recommend it.

Everything a nursery should be. Highly recommended. We had a very difficult experience with our elder child in a daycare type nursery. What a revelation St Ives has been. The same caring, dedicated staff each day. Staff who know your child, their strengths, interests and personalities so well. Activities planned around your child to help them grow and develop. Such a happy place to be a child.
