Our Forest School Activity Morning was a success!

We had so much fun on Saturday 6th May welcoming 130 families to our Forest School Activity Morning. Children from the ages of 2 to 8 became mini-adventurers, discovering the delights of our 8 acres of magical woodland.

There was so much for our intrepid explorers to discover and do – their imaginations ran wild! Our treasure hunt led the children around the woods, stopping off to make mud pies in our mud kitchen and creating colourful tree art.

Children perfected the essential woodland art of toasting marshmallows – unsurprisingly one of the most popular activities! Making fairy wands and tree trolls was also one of our busy areas and a lovely reminder of their morning for children to take home. Other children simply enjoyed climbing our tree ladders and running free in a beautiful setting.

One of our visitors commented on Twitter:

‘My little one and I had an amazing morning at forest school. Making mud cakes for the fairies, walking the plank on the pirate ship, painting a tree for the elves and making a clay troll face. If only all learning could be done this way!’

High praise indeed and we couldn’t agree more!

The benefits of encouraging children to explore and experience the natural world through outdoor learning are far-reaching. Which is why Forest School is a valued part of our curriculum, starting in The Ivies Nursery from the age of 2 until Year 3, with all pupils spending an afternoon a week in our woodlands. Boosting self-confidence, self-esteem as well as developing social and communication skills are just part of why we encourage time outdoors, not to mention the obvious benefits of physical exercise.

We are planning more Forest School Activity Mornings soon so keep an eye out for further details. If your little one can’t wait, don’t forget every Monday between 3.45pm – 5.00pm, we have our Forest School Club for children aged 4-7 years. Places are limited so please contact Hayley Dib at for more information.
