St Ives is Travel Awards Finalist

The School Travel Awards recognise inspiring people and the best companies, venues and attractions, as well as celebrating the best school trips.  Organised by School Travel Organiser magazine, this special initiative celebrates learning outside the classroom and raises the profile and importance of school visits.

St Ives entered the ‘My Best School Trip’ Award for their five-day residential trip to Powys in Wales for their pupils in Years 5 and 6 which ran last year. During the five days of the trip, pupils visited a selection of quality attractions linked with their topics such as Blists Hill Victorian Town, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and Cadbury World. They undertook Geography fieldwork in Welshpool, painted Canal ware, designed Laura Ashley montages, took part in a geocaching treasure hunt and made candles. There also immersed themselves in a morning of Victorian school and heard the local legends of Stokesay Castle brought to life by a professional storyteller.

St Ives was invited to a special awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London where they were thrilled to learn they were amongst only five finalists for the prestigious ‘My Best School Trip’ Award, receiving an award and a School Travel Awards teddy.  St Ives congratulated the winner, Landale Primary School in Ambleside, Cumbria for their space trip to Liverpool.

Nicola Smith, Deputy Head at St Ives said of their finalist award win: “School trips are an integral part of life at St Ives, both academically and pastorally.  The learning that goes on outside the classroom here is phenomenal, whether it be on a day trip or a week’s residential and the memories stay with the children for many years.  We are delighted to have last year’s trip to Wales recognised on a national scale!”
