Chinese New Year

This afternoon Reception learnt about the story of the animals in Chinese New Year. We talked about what animal year we were born in, we made paper rabbits, then we went outside & coloured rabbits in small teams using chalk! We were all very proud of our rainbow rabbits & couldn't wait for our parents to come to collect us so that they could see our work!

Year 1 Forest School

In forest school this week Year 1 learnt about different animals in winter, focusing on birds. We talked about why birds may struggle to find food in winter because the ground is so frozen they can’t get to their food. The children then used oranges to make their own bird feeders, filling them with a mixture of bird seeds & fat. They enjoyed hanging them on the trees & we are looking forward to seeing what is left next week!

Reception Topic

Reception pupils are loving this term’s topic on toys. This morning they learnt about different toys through the ages and were lucky enough to explore the toy box which we have borrowed from Godalming Museum. They then had time playing with the toys, which included old cars, hoopla and catching the ball in the cup. What fun! Thank you Godalming Museum for lending us your fabulous toys.

Reception Music

Clever Mrs Maxwell taking advantage of the few minutes of sun we’ve had this week to take Reception on a ‘sounds’ walk in Music. The children noticed the sounds of an aeroplane, birds, cars, Year 4 playing Hockey and an engine. They then came back inside where Mrs Maxwell played her bird sound with one of her percussion instruments, which the children loved.

La Galette des Rois

Great fun at lunch today as we celebrated the French tradition of marking the end of the festive season by eating the Galette des Rois (King’s cake). Each cake has a charm hidden inside it and the youngest pupil on each table had to hide under the table and call out to the person cutting the cake who should receive which piece (all in French, of course!). Whoever found the charm in their piece of cake named their king or queen, who in turn wore a crown for the rest of the day. Everyone had great fun, even though some of the youngest pupils were a little surprised to be hanging out under the dining room tables!
