Mr TR Plant MA
Chairman of Governors
Tom took over as Chairman in May 2008, having been a Governor since September 2005. He has a legal background, having originally qualified as a solicitor before moving into a financial and fund management role, with, most recently, responsibilities for investor relations and corporate governance. He now has some spare time to pursue a number of charitable activities. As Chairman, his responsibilities are to guide and oversee the overall strategic direction and operational management of the school. Tom’s daughter was at St Ives (leaving in 2001). His interests include tennis, real tennis and surfing.

Mr CH Barber FRICS
Chris is a Chartered Surveyor and his expertise has been invaluable
in
preparation for, and successful completion of, the recent development of the Ivies.
His three daughters, now at
university, went through St Ives and Chris has been a Governor for six years, although he will be retiring at the end of the school year. His interests are golf, cricket and walking.

Mrs E Brown BA Cert Ed
As a former head teacher of a girls’ prep school in Claygate, with experience of being a Governor at another school. Elizabeth
brings a wealth of educational experience and expertise. She is a regular
school inspector, works as an educational consultant and with a charity
that works with schools in the most deprived London boroughs.

Mr MI Large FCCA
Martin is the Chief Executive of Steljes Limited, a specialist
educational IT supplier. He has been a Governor since
May 2005 and,
having a finance background, has acted as Treasurer, as well as taken the lead on IT matters on the board. Martin has three daughters, two of whom are former pupils, and one in Year 5. His interests are cycling, photography, golf and tennis. Martin also sits on the UK Board of Right to Play, an athlete-driven international humanitarian organisation.

Mrs S Manser
Sue became a Governor in May 2005 having been a parent for 5 years.
Her background is in investment banking, but she
takes the lead on Health and Safety issues on the Board and also chairs the St Ives Travel Commitee on the board. Sue’s interests are snowboarding, skiing and all sorts of sports. Sue has two daughters at the School.

Mr AG Peddle FCA
Alan continues a fifteen-year link with St Ives first as a parent - his third daughter left the school in 2007 to follow her sisters to St Catherine's School, Bramley - and then joining the Board of Governors in January 2008. He trained as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse and was Secretary to the PW International Board. His current role is as a Director of Finance in PricewaterhouseCoopers UK.
He takes the lead on risk management issues on the board. Alan has lived in Haslemere since 1990 and his interests include golf, skiing, photography and gardening.

Mrs AO Plant MA
Antonia has been a Governor since 2005. She is a solicitor with a background in commercial and employment law. Her legal know how is invaluable to the board as is her experience gained as Deputy Chairman of CHASE hospice care for children, from which she retired in 2007. She has a wealth of local knowledge having lived in Haslemere since 1992 and is an active committee member of the Haslemere Hospital League of Friends. As well as two sons, she has a daughter, Laura, who left St Ives in 2001 for St Swithuns in Winchester.

Dr H Robinson MA Phd
Helena is the mother of three girls at the school and is a vice president in the Global Foods Division of Unilever. Her background is in marketing and she was previously UK Marketing Director for Lever Faberge. She serves on the board as
lead governor for all marketing and PR issues. She travels extensively with her job and enjoys running and all sorts of sports .
Mr CC St J Rushton ACA
Chris retired as Chairman in May 2008 after three year in that role and over 10 years as a Governor. . Chris is Head of Finance of the tax practice of KPMG Europe and was also formerly Treasurer of St Ives – he continues to have an active role in monitoring the school’s finances as Treasurer.. Married to Barbara, a local GP and a fomert Governor and Chairman of St Ivesr, his three children were all educated at St Ives. Chris is a keen sailor and walker.
Mr A Steward MSc
Andrew comes onto the board with first rate financial credentials. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, he moved into financial management roles with various banks before joining Fidelity International, where he is the Chief Accounting Officer with wide management responsibilities. He is also involved with other local charity work and is a former parent at St Ives, whose daughter, Laura, has now moved on to St Catherine’s. Andrew’s interests include gardening, sailing and canoeing.

Mrs S Cattaneo - Headteacher
Sian Cattaneo came to St Ives as the Head Teacher in the summer of 2001. Her first post was at a boarding prep school in Sussex and she soon realised the huge benefits of the independent sector. Wanting to broaden their horizons Sian and her husband Tim took themselves off to Kenya to work in one of the largest IAPS prep schools in the world, The Banda School in Nairobi. During their sixteen years there Sian rose to be Head of the Junior School and had two children along the way! They returned to UK to pursue their careers and secondary education for their children. They settled back in Sussex on their return and live at Hurstpierpoint College where Tim and the children are.

Mrs L-J Highfield - Deputy Head, Year 6, English
Lesley-Jayne Highfield came to St Ives in 2002 from Ardingley College Junior School where she was Head of English and Drama. L-J has taught in a variety of schools, both state and independent, and has been an Independent Schools' inspector for the last 3 years. L-J is married with 3 children and lives at Hurtwood House School where her husband is a Housemaster.
Miss S Shah - Year 6, Mathematics and IT Systems Manager
Following a successful career in IT, Simi retrained as a teacher in 2002. After two posts in state schools, Simi came to St Ives in 2005 as the IT systems manager and specialist Maths Teacher. Simi has been responsible for the implementation of many new IT systems within the School. Simi's daughter, Priya, is in Pre-Prep.
Miss N Smith - Year 5, Geography and History
Nicola Smith came to St Ives in 2000 as a newly qualified teacher. With her first class honours degree in Geography, Nicola provides real specialism as the Head of the Humanities Department. Nicola is involved in the organisation of school trips and is a keen traveller in her spare time.
Mrs S Gibb - Year 3 and Mathematics
Sandy Gibb has been a form teacher at St Ives since 2001, following two years at Godalming Juniors. Sandy is the School Maths co-ordinator and also teaches Maths in Years 4 and 5. Sandy is married with 2 sons.
Miss J Pearce - Year 2 and PE
Jenny Pearce joined St Ives in September 2007 as a newly qualified teacher, having worked in children’s television for six years. She is currently living in Godalming with her partner Jamie.
Mrs GM Fotheringham - Nursery Class
Gill Fotheringham has had a long career in teaching and day care for nursery age children, having started off as a Nursery Nurse in Derby. She has also, with her husband, run a children’s home in London. She is a keen swimmer and regular visitor to Cornwall, in her caravan. She has two children and one grandchild and will be retiring from St Ives at the end of this term
Miss K Gwilliam - Music
Kate Gwilliam studied music at Sheffield University; then went on to Orchestral College in London for a year as a violinist, working with leading conductors and giving many concerts and radio broadcasts. Kate came to St Ives from the Royal Junior School in September 2007, having also previously worked at both Amesbury and St Catherine’s prep. Kate continues to play the violin in local orchestras and quartets.
Mrs V Sampson - French
Veronique Sampson qualified as a lawyer in France before retraining as a language teacher in the UK; taking a PGCE in Modern Languages at the University of North London. Veronique taught French and German at Rodborough before working at Godalming College for four years. Veronique has worked at St Ives since 2003 and has been a Year 5 form teacher since 2006. Veronique is married with 2 children.
Mrs V Busby - Pre-Prep Assistant
Vicky Busby joined the staff in 2006 as a Teaching Assistant having previously worked at a local nursery. Vicky recently completed her higher level teaching qualification and is now studying for a teaching degree with the Open University. Vicky lives with her husband, Mark who works in forestry conservation and is a fireman.
Miss J Thatcher - Pre-Prep Assistant
JemmaThatcher joined St Ives in the Autumn of 2007 as a Pre-Prep Assistant. Prior to this, Jemma worked in a daycare nursery as a Nursery Assistant whilst studying for an NVQ in Early years Childcare and Education. Jemma became a group leader upon completion of her NVQ 3.
Mr J Herrtage - Bursar
Jeremy Herrtage is a Chartered Secretary and joined St Ives in July 2007, having formerly been Bursar at Fletonfleet School in Cobham, Surrey for three years. Prior to that, he served in the Army for 20 years before taking on a number of different activities including Director of Administration at Maidstone Hospital for six years. He and his wife Nicky have three grown up children and live locally. Jeremy's interests include gardening and landscaping and numerous sporting activities.
Mrs L Disley - School Secretary
Lizzie Disley joined St Ives in January 2008, having previously been School Office Manager at St Catherine’s School. Prior to that, she worked as Marketing Manager for an import company based in Haslemere. She lives in Fernhurst with her partner, Cameron, and is a keen runner and a member of Haslemere Running Club.
Mrs B Smith - Secretarial Support
Barbara filled in as School Secretary in 2007 during Jill Palmer’s sick leave and continues to work on a part time basis, helping with the school website amongst other responsibilities. Barbara is a former Chair of FOSI and has a daughter Jo, who was at St Ives. She lives in Haslemere and is married to Graham.

Mrs W Gillespie - Head of Nursery & Pre-Prep Departments
Wilma Gillespie arrived at St Ives in the Autumn of 2007 to take up the post of Head of Pre-Prep. Prior to this, Wilma had taught at Rowan Girls Prep in Claygate for 10 years, following a period of managing Bell International Language School's nursery in Geneva. Wilma is married with 2 boys and has a Husky called Kia.
Mrs R Glaister - Year 4 and Individual Needs Co-ordinator
Rosemary Glaister joined the staff at St Ives in September 1999. Rosemary supports children and staff in every year group from Nursery to Year 6 as well as individual pupils. Rosemary has been a Year 5 form teacher in the past and is responsible for Year 4 literacy. Rosemary lives in Liss with her husband Steve and has 2 daughters.
Mrs C Dungey - Year 4, Science, Mathematics and ICT
Caroline Dungey joined St Ives in September 2007 as a specialist Maths, Science and ICT teacher. Since Caroline finished her degree, she has taught in various International Schools around the world including Kuwait, Singapore, China and Germany. Caroline has a daughter, Lily, in Year 3.
Miss LJ Hall - Year 3, Geography and PE
When Jane Hall first joined St Ives staff she worked in the Pre-Prep department as well as teaching PE to the lower year groups. Jane is now working in Years 3 and 4, specialising in Humanities. Jane lives in Petersfield and is a keen cyclist.
Mrs A Carr - Year 1 and Drama
Mandy Carr started teaching at St Ives in 1998. Mandy has taught both Year 2 and Year 1, and also teaches Drama to the senior girls with responsibility for the annual school play. Previously, Mandy was a PR accounts manager and worked as a journalist in the North West, before qualifying as a teacher in 1994. Mandy has 2 grown-up daughters and 3 grandchildren, and enjoys amateur dramatics in her spare time.
Miss M McNamara - Sport
Michele McNamara joined the staff of St Ives in 2000 as the PE specialist. Following time in both the state sector and an independent school Michele took time out to complete a masters degree before coming to St Ives. A former County and U18 International hockey player, Michele lives in Lee-on-Solent.
Mrs C May - Science
Clare May has been St Ives Specialist Science teacher for 10 years, having joined the staff from a state comprehensive school. Clare lives locally, both her daughters went to St Ives and she is passionate about riding, often taking part in show jumping events.
Mrs E Crossman - Art
Emma Crossman came to St Ives in September 1999 after a 10 year break spent looking after her two daughters combined with voluntary work in the community and pursuing her own artwork. Emma graduated from Exeter University in Art and Design with English and Education. Local teaching posts have included Reigate Grammar and Guildford High Senior Schools.
Mrs P Tagg - Pre-Prep Assistant
Paula Tagg joined St Ives as a Pre-Prep assistant having previously run a successful catering and interior design company before undertaking her Montessori training. Paula lives locally and has two daughters.
Mrs C Cooper - Pre-Prep Assistant
Cheryl Cooper came to St Ives in September 2001 to do a training placement for her child care course and then joined the staff in 2003. Cheryl has also worked at a local nursery after completing a Diploma in Childcare. Cheryl is married to Neil.
Mrs J Palmer - Marketing
Jill Palmer was formerly the St Ives School Secretary, a post she took up in December 2000. Prior to that, she has had a varied career, starting as a radio presenter for BBC Radio Leeds, becoming a sergeant in the Surrey police force and then working for the team of engineers developing Faslane and Coulport nuclear submarines. She moved into the Marketing role at St Ives following a sailing accident in May 2006.
