St Ives recognises the importance of drama in helping girls to express themselves and to build confidence. There are many opportunities for performance: to peers, parents and wider audiences. This may be in the class assemblies, class drama sessions or in more established plays and concerts. Many of these are in conjunction with the Music Department and in the Early Years this may be in Christmas Celebrations or Summer Concerts.
Drama at St Ives endeavours to give as many girls as possible opportunities and, whilst recognising that not all girls are natural performers, most are keen to be involved. In the Senior Department an annual production, usually a musical, is held at the end of the Summer Term. This involves every girl in the Senior School, whether as a principal character, small part or in the chorus!
Recent productions have included Joseph, The Wizard of Oz as well as "Olivia", a musical based on the Oliver story written specifically for a younger age group. The success in these productions is often in the choice of play and our aim is to bring out the best in all girls.
